Chapter Fifteen

“What would you like to drink, sir? Perhaps a Bloody Mary or mimosa?” asked the flight attendant.

“I’ll have a Bloody Mary, spicy if you can. You, Possum?” replied Rick.

“I’ll take a mimosa, light on the O.J., please.”

Possum and Rick sipped on their drinks and enjoyed some fancy mixed nuts as the rest of the herd loaded in the back of the plane. It was nice to fly first class again. Rick hadn’t flown up front since his days working at Delta Air Lines. He was savoring every minute.

“I must say, Rick, you look quite distinguished with the dyed gray on your beard and temples,’” Possum commented, as he took another swig of his tall drink.

“Call me Michael, Stefan,” replied Rick with a wink. We need to get into character.

“Ok, be a soldier!” replied Possum, a.k.a. Stefan, in a vivacious manner, holding up a pretend camera and snapping pictures. His theatricality made Rick nearly spit out his Bloody Mary laughing.

“You’re so good at playing that character. But we have to remember, no matter how nice and accommodating this guy Liam is, he is also likely a murderer,” Rick reminded him.

“Oh, my goodness, you are so wicked, Rick. Of course, I’ll remember.”

The connecting flight was on time and before they knew it, they were buckled in and on their way. Next stop, Zürich. Rick watched every video he could on the plane’s small screen about the city and tourist destinations.

When the plane landed, they made their way to the main terminal. A tall, blond-haired man stood at the exit with a handwritten sign that read Michael Compagno. The man had a thick accent as he escorted Rick and Possum to the town car. He spoke a mixture of broken English and Swiss German that was hard to understand, but they got the gist.

“Grüezi, Härr Compagno. Is this your first time in Zürich?”

“Hi, yes, it is. Neither of us has ever been here before,” Rick responded. “I’d like to exchange some money. Can you take me to a place with the best rate?”

The man thought for a minute then said, “Ummmm, ja, there is a bank on the way to the corporate apartment. I will drop you and wait by the entry.”

The man handed Rick a card with his cell number on it as they stepped into the limo.

“I am here for you twenty-four seven, for motorcar use. Ring anytime.”

“Vielen Dank.”

“Du sprichst Deutsch?”

“No, not really. I only know a few phrases.”

The man nodded in the rearview mirror as he put the car in gear and pulled out of the airport onto the A51 bound for Escher Wyss. Rick and Possum took in the scenery as the car headed south on the A51. As they approached Opfikon, the beautiful roadway became a tunnel with a park above. The cleanliness of the city was something to behold.

Euro-styled wooden benches sat in perfect lined order beneath the broadleaf beech trees. Everything seemed so perfect, everything in its place.

The driver pulled up next to the Credit Suisse Bank just off the toll road.
